The 22nd November marks the launch of Disability History Month.

This year, Katie and Oriel, the Disability Officers with the support of the Disabled Student's Society, have a full list of events for you!

Union bar/ 532 bar + kitchen, Monday 3rd, from 6pm

Quiet Lunch Space:

Sick of trying to find somewhere to sit over lunchtime? Bring your lunch and join the Disabled Student's Society in the Students' Union. Social interaction is optional, but if you're interested it's a chance to see what we're about and consider getting involved :)

Every Tuesday, 11am - 1:30pm, room 2.2

Queer + Disabled Zine Making Workshop:

For Disability History Month Ali Harri is hosting a zine making workshop and space for queer + disabled students to connect, vent and share their experiences of these two identities. Being queer and disabled is a lot of hard work. Supposedly accessible spaces are not always designed with us in mind, and the focus on alcohol-centric clubs and bars can leave a lot of disabled queers left out. This workshop will be a relaxed space for queer disabled folk to get creative and socialise with one another. Art supplies, such as pens, paper and paint will be provided, as well as snacks and refreshments. If you have your own supplies that you don’t mind sharing with the group, or old magazines that we can cut up, then please bring those along.

Wednesday 5th December, 3:30-5pm, room 1.5

If you have any access requirements, please let us know but filling out this form.

Showcase: Disability and Me:

On Monday the 10th, in the Foyer of the Student's Union will be a showcase of disabled students and staff of the university. You will also be able to make your own badge to support the disabled campaign!

Monday 10th December, all day, in the Foyer

Film Screening "The Theory of Everything" + Debate:

Join us to watch the movie "The Theory of Everything" on Wednesday 12th evening. The screening will be followed by a debate around ableism in the movie industry.

Wednesday 12th December, 6:30pm-9pm, room lower-ground 1

Closing Conference: Disability and Sex Work, the unseen connection:

Did you know that over half of the students sex workers identify as disabled or have a long-term condition? Come and learn more about it during our closing conference.

Thursday 13th, 4:30 - 7pm, room 1.6
