Staff Criteria

Unless otherwise stated, all awards are open to nominations for all staff across the University.

This award recognises a member of staff who has put time and effort into creating great feedback on assessment.

This may include, but is not limited to:

1. Making it clear to students how they can use their feedback to improve their future work.
2. Providing feedback which is constructive, meaningful and timely.

E.g. sending feedback to allow it to be used for assessed work, holding discussion sessions to further expand on feedback

This award recognises a member of professional services staff for their contribution to supporting students with their teaching and learning.

This may include, but is not limited to:

1. Providing outstanding help and support to students with a dedication to improving student services and student life.
2. Consistently making themselves available to students to offer support when needed

E.g. being the person students know to go to with any problems, having an open door policy

This award recognises a supervisor of postgraduate research who has put considerable time and effort into making sure their research students succeed.

This may include, but is not limited to:

1. Offering regular support through video, email and telephone meetings
2. Recognising the individual needs of the PGR student & providing or signposting to academic and pastoral support.
3. Providing in-depth, clear guidance and information for the specific research project

This award recognises a member of teaching staff who has made efforts to diversify the content of their curriculum through highlighting less well-known contributions and providing multiple perspectives for students to experience their subject.

This may include, but is not limited to:

1. Making efforts to ensure their teaching content is reflective of the student body
2. Making efforts to engage students with underrepresented perspectives

E.g. including viewpoints previously not considered, creating a UCIL module to address EDI in the curriculum.

This may include, but is not limited to:

1. Making teaching more inclusive of different learning styles
2. Providing a variety of different assessment methods

E.g. they are easily approachable, quickly providing academic references, offering career development tips and opportunities, and dedicating a lot of time to students.

This award recognises staff who have gone the extra mile this year to support the teaching, learning and wellbeing of students throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
This may include, but is not limited to:

1. Developing solutions to ensure a smooth transition from in-person to remote learning
2. Providing additional opportunities for students to access support

E.g. they have changed their teaching or support based on feedback, they have been empathetic and understanding of how the pandemic has affected you, they have signposted to appropriate wellbeing support.

This may include, but is not limited to:

1. Inspiring confidence and encouraging students’ interest in the subject or discipline
2. Demonstrating their enthusiasm for their subject and delivering content in a way that challenges & motivates students
3. Showing commitment to their role and supporting students by being approachable

E.g. their feedback is comprehensive, they include innovative methods in their teaching assistance, and they offer insight into their postgraduate experience.

E.g. creating a welcome guide, organising an event with careers staff, coordinating sessions on research and learning tips
