1 February marks the start of LGBTQ+ History Month in the UK. LGBTQ+ History Month was founded in 1994 to celebrate our diverse communities, and to recognise the progress we have made towards queer liberation over the years, as well as the work that still needs to be done. It coincides with the anniversary of the abolition of Section 28 in February 2003, which had banned the promotion of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship. This act had a significant impact on the lives of LGBTQ+ people in the past, and today.

This LGBTQ+ History Month, we want to celebrate our LGBTQ+ students and staff members, educate ourselves on the issues faced by LGBTQ+ people in the past and the present, and play our part in making the LGBTQ+ history of the future! Our programme of activity will be carried out entirely online. Look out for zine workshops, panel discussions and history talks, as well as our annual LGBTQ+ talent showcase ‘Can You Queer Me In The Back?’

Any enquiry about the events, please get in touch via email.
