For us, people are disabled by barriers in society, not by their impairment or difference. Barriers can be physical, like buildings not having accessible toilets. Or they can be caused by people's attitudes to difference, like assuming disabled people can't do certain things.

The liberation of disabled students means removing the barriers that make their life harder to create equality and offers disabled people more independence, choice and control.

We recognise that not every disabled person uses this social model of disability, and it’s ok but it’s the one we choose to use for our campaigns.

The Disabled Students Campaign is about helping to create a community of disabled students at the university, with regular socials and welfare support, as well as working on campaigns on a local and national level.

If you would like to be involved to a significant degree, please get in touch. You do not need to provide proof of your disability as we recognise the difficulty to access healthcare and diagnosis in the UK.
