WHO WE ARE...

Reclaim the Night is an annual campaign against sexual assault and gender-based violence.

Reclaim the Night was founded in 1977, as a response to women being told to stay inside at night rather than risking becoming victims of sex offenders. Since then it has grown into a national student movement.

WHAT WE DO…

We march for gender equality, the breakdown of gendered discrimination and the right to feel safe on our streets at night.

This year, on the 20th February over 2,000 students marched to Reclaim the Night.

However, Reclaim the Night is more than just a march. Until women feel safe from sexual harassment and assault, Reclaim the Night will continue to demand change.

We call on Greater Manchester Authorities to:

1. Recognise Misogyny as a Hate Crime before 2021.

2. Put more street lighting in student residential areas such as Fallowfield, Withington, Hulme, Salford and Rusholme

3.  Work with the Universities in Manchester to bring the Safezone app into residential areas.

We call on the University of Manchester to:

1. Fund all their bar staff (including SU bar staff) to become trained and accredited by the Good Night Out Campaign, ahead of the start of the 2020/2021 academic year.

2. Give detailed, valuable, inclusive information on consent out to all students, both home and international, of all genders, on-campus and distance learners, who enter the University and have training for all staff on dealing with disclosures of sexual violence.

3. Get the SafeZone app, and broaden it to include residential areas in Fallowfield, Withington, Hulme, Salford and Rusholme and Manchester city centre, working with the council to do so.
