Access All Areas

Access All Areas is the newest volunteering arm of the Students' Union, bringing together a range of student-led educational volunteer projects in the local community. All of our projects have the same aim - to improve access and widen participation in education. We have both one-off and long-term volunteering opportunities that run throughout the year. We lead workshops in local primary schools, run educational outreach projects and mentoring schemes in the community. So if you're passionate about access, and looking to volunteer or set up your own project, come and get involved! You can apply for all of our volunteering opportunities through the Volunteer Hub! Use your student email address to create an account and search for the projects you’re interested in. Projects post adverts throughout the year, so be sure to check back regularly to see what’s new.

Current Projects

Bee a Baller

Bee a Baller, our newest Access All Areas project, aims to run weekly online nutrition and sports talks for local schools, Stay tuned for updates on this project!

Club MFL

Club MFL provides weekly French and Spanish lessons to local primary school pupils. This project is currently looking for a project leader who studies

Modern Foreign Languages to continue the project this year. If you would like to support children improve their language skills, apply to be the project leader on Volunteer Hub.

Code Club

Volunteers with Code Club host a weekly after school club for pupils aged 7-11, teaching them the basics of coding using the programming language Scratch. To get involved, search for the project on the Volunteer Hub or keep up to date with all STEM Society opportunities on Facebook.

FunFair

FunFair hosts day-long educational-based workshops for local primary school children before taking participants on a tour of campus. If you’re passionate about getting children interested in your subject, apply to join the project via the Volunteer Hub.

MiPS

Our Medics in Primary Schools (MiPS) teach weekly sessions on a range of topics such as Antibiotic Awareness to pupils aged 8-11 years at local primary schools. If you’re currently studying for a medical degree at the University of Manchester and would like to gain experience of teaching, working with children or meeting fellow Medics, join the society via the SU website and keep up to date with the project on Facebook.

Reading Mentors

Reading Mentors support pupils in local primary schools (aged 5-11 years) with their reading. If you would like to become one of our Reading Mentors, volunteering to help three children practice their reading or creating online videos, apply online through the Volunteer Hub.

Travelab

Travelab aims to teach children (and grown-ups!) about STEM topics through fun and inspiring hands-on activities and online videos. This project hopes to spark interest and encourage children to pursue a career in STEM industries. To get involved apply online through the Volunteer Hub.

MedReach

MedReach is an online mentoring programme for prospective Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Optometry students at local schools and sixth form colleges. If you are currently studying one of these degrees at the University of Manchester and would like to help college-age students achieve the same dream, apply to join the project via the Volunteer Hub or email medreachmanchester@gmail.com for more details.

MOMs

Our Manchester Outreach Medics (MOMs) host day-long workshops for sixth form students on a range of topics including life as a Med student, medical ethics, communication skills, UKCAT and BMAT. To apply to become an Outreach Medic, check out the opportunity vacancy on the Volunteer Hub and keep up to date with the project on Facebook.

MODs

Manchester Outreach Dentists aims to help sixth form students around Manchester with their application to dental school by running workshops with valuable advice and tips. Stay tuned for updates!

Consider Postgrad

Consider Postgrad is an annual event encouraging University of Manchester students to consider completing a postgraduate course. If you’d like to share your experience of postgraduate study by writing a biography or helping at the event, apply through the Volunteer Hub.

MMRSSoc Undergraduate Research Conference

The MMRSSoc Undergraduate Research Conference is an annual conference for undergraduate students at the University of Manchester, offering opportunities to listen to renowned researchers present on their area of expertise, as well as attend workshops that are tailored to them. Volunteers from the Society organise the conference, as well as hosting an essay competition for students, and you can apply for positions via the Volunteer Hub.
