A guide to online activism

Over the last few weeks your Student Executive team have been campaigning hard to protect our student community from the effects of the COVID-19 crisis.

We are pleased to have secured an extension of the hardship fund, which ensures the fund is available to all students across our university, regardless of level of study or nationality. You can find out more information here.

Your Welfare and Community Officer, Adam has been working with Manchester’s Universities and Unions to protect student renters. Click here to read their letter lobbying private landlords to release students from housing contracts.

We have also launched a petition in collaboration with other student unions across the country, calling on the government to clear tuition debt for this semester in light of the substantial disruption to teaching. Click here to find out more.

I know our student community is full of individuals who are also passionate about creating change and I want you to feel empowered to take action during these difficult times.

However, I recognise it can be hard to know where to start, especially in the current context. That’s why I’ve put together this short guide to help you navigate the world of online activism.

Whether you’re a seasoned protestor or might have not even signed a petition before, I hope this guide will inspire you to take action. We will be here to provide you with any extra support you require.
