The University of Manchester Students’ Union uses a significant amount of energy and water to deliver our services. Any type of energy and water use has an environmental impact so we need to make sure we use them in the most efficient and effective way.

Over the last 4 years we’ve reduced our electricity usage from 678,068kwh to 633,900kwh.  There was a significant drop in usage during 2017; however the building was mostly closed for a major redevelopment, including all trading areas being closed throughout the summer period.

Whilst this is a start, we are still trying to improve the efficiency of how we use electricity from using motion activated lighting through the building to using the most energy efficient fridges and freezers in our café and bars.
