ENTREPRENUERSHIP SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS – A STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN UoM STUDENTS’ UNION AND MASOOD ENTREPRENERSHIP CENTER (MEC)

“We want our students to succeed in securing Jobs and also creating Jobs”

More often, a huge spotlight has been placed on the university and the students’ union’s support services that improves students’ success for securing a job after school. Even though this is great, the Covid19 Pandemic and the job losses that came with it, highlighted the need for us to expand our support to include empowering students to be able to spot entrepreneurial opportunities and take advantage of them. Also, we were concerned about our international students’ lower probability of securing jobs in the UK after graduation due to local government policy hindrances and the risk of not knowing the existence of these useful entrepreneurship support services that can boost their success back in their home countries. In simple words “We want our students to succeed in securing Jobs and also creating Jobs”. We want our students to be well-known entrepreneurs, not just good employees.

Due to this, we have established a strategic relationship with the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre (MEC), based in the Alliance Manchester Business School, so both organisations can:

  • Raise awareness of MEC’s existing and newly developed Entrepreneurship modules for all students (from Undergrad to Postgrad, Home to International students).
  • Promote the existing entrepreneurship support MEC offers for all students (both Home and International students).
  • Develop entrepreneurship co-curricular activities for our students.
  • Develop entrepreneurship training programmes for the leaders of our clubs and societies.

“MEC is excited to be working with the UoM Student’s Union towards the establishment of a long term, mutually beneficial and enduring annual programme of entrepreneurial support activity for students and their societies” said Lynn Sheppard, Director of MEC.

So, to kick start this partnership with MEC, we would like to launch our first video Webinar which will be an opportunity for students to be introduced to MEC, to understand all the support they provide and what they can gain from participating. Some of the highlights within this webinar will include:

  • Events, Workshops, and Talks with entrepreneurs giving their inspirational experience.
  • Entrepreneurship related competitions provided by MEC and externally.
  • Start-up Visa application support provided by MEC.
  • Entrepreneurial funding support available through MEC or externally for students.
  • Drop-in Sessions and Advisor Network Support to help in converting your idea into a venture.
  • The developing network of MEC alumni with similar entrepreneurial interests that can provide the much-needed guidance and mentorship for students.

This Webinar will take place on the 10th November 2020 at 5pm. Kindly register for your limited space for this webinar via registration link.
